Film Screening: The Clean Bin Project
Grant Baldwin and Jenny Rustemeyer are makers of a documentary film "about a regular couple and their quest to answer the question: 'is it possible to live completely waste free'?". They are cycling across Canada, showing the film in communities along the way. They are stopping in Kingston in mid August.
From the film website:
"Partners Jen and Grant go head to head in a competition to see who can swear off consumerism and produce the least landfill garbage in an entire year. Their light-hearted competition is set against a darker examination of the sobering problem of waste in North American society." Go to the website at http://www.cleanbinmovie.com/about/ if you would like to read more, or see the short movie trailer.

June 2 to 8, 2008 was Bike Week in Kingston!
As always, Cycle Kingston hosted Roll-In Breakfasts, for fellow cyclists. The Roll-In Breakfasts were served from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. on Monday, June 2nd and Friday, June 6th. Monday’s breakfast of coffee, juice, fruit and pastries was served in front of Stauffer Library at Queen’s University, while Friday’s was at Market Square behind City Hall.
“Every year, more and more people join us for a fun morning,” says Andy Mills of Cycle Kingston, “To show our appreciation of all those who decide to cycle to work or school, Cycle Kingston offered a free, yummy breakfast for cyclists.”
Jim Elyot of 98.9 The Drive cycled to Monday’s breakfast and challenged his listeners to leave the car at home and ride with him. City Councillors Vicki Schmolka and Steve Garrison joined Jim as did Cycle Kingston's president Hal Cain and a group of cyclists from RYDlyfe.
“It’s great to see people in the community challenging one another to make a change in their commuting habits,” says Cycle Kingston’s new Cycling Programs Coordinator, Jennifer Foote, “We are encouraging everyone to give it a try.”
Cycle Kingston’s Roll-In Breakfasts were supported by the City of Kingston, Queen’s University, the Sleepless Goat, Loblaws, A&P, the Common Ground, Produce Town, Gears & Grinds, and the Think First Foundantion.
