“It’s not just riding them that makes bicycles a connection between us and our humanity; it’s the emotional trigger to our experiences when we see one being ridden, or in art form, or used in advertising, or even rusting along the side of a road.” ~ H. Cain
Cycling Week in Kingston is designed to be a community participation event for cyclists and non-cyclists alike; meaning, we want to include anyone and any organization or business who is willing to help celebrate bicycles and cycling for any and all reasons! Bicycles are not just for riding, they are portrayed and used is many everyday ways. Artists, advertisers, even musicians have connections with bicycles. Check out this video from 1963. People cycle for transportation, recreation, personal health and fitness, environmental reasons, economic reasons, and combinations of these and many other reasons. The City of Kingston continues to be one of the best places in Canada for bicyclists. The combined efforts by the City and community in areas such as education, infrastructure, and general awareness regarding cycling is something to be celebrated!
